Newport Veterans Memorial Park in Newport received $77,418 in state funding to install walkways, making all attractions more accessible to visitors, especially those using wheelchairs, motorized scooters, and strollers. The grant came from the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the state Department of Community and Economic Development, through its Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program.
Making Veterans Memorial Park more user-friendly benefits everyone, young and old, who enjoy coming to the grounds for outdoor and community activities. Walkways will help foster wellness and cultivate appreciation of our natural resources.
Local matching funds for the grant will be provided by Newport Revitalization & Preservation Society (NRPS).
